THE FIRST GOOD NEWS PREACHER (EVANGELIST) OF THE RESURRECTION

Some of you God has appointed in the Church: First apostles,

second prophets, third teachers; then He gave gifts of miracles and healings;

helpers, administrators and people who speak varieties of tongues.

(1 Cor. 12, 28)

Blessed Mary Magdalene received the gift to be “The Equal-to-the-Apostles”, because with her struggle she became like the apostles and became a preacher of the Gospel. She is called The Equal-to-the-Apostles, although apostleship as a priesthood activity in the Church is a gift for men, but her name is mentioned in the Scriptures many more times than the names of some of the apostles.

The fact that there is neither male nor female, but all are one before Him, and everything depends on our personal relationship with Him, testifies Mary Magdalene – The Equal-to-the-Apostles. Perhaps, not many women are found in the diptych (list) of the Orthodox Church, but those who are glorified have attained such great holiness and glory that they are even ahead of men. In accordance with the words of St. John Chrysostom: “Women are capable of great deeds, even greater than those of men.” One of them is the Holy Myrrh-Bearer Mary Magdalene.

ПРВИОТ БЛАГОВЕСНИК НА ВОСКРЕСЕНИЕТО

Едни од вас Бог постави во Црквата прво апостоли,

второ пророци, трето учители; потоа даде дарби за чудеса и исцелување;

па застапници, управници и луѓе што зборуваат на разни јазици.

(1 Кор. 12, 28)

Блажената Марија Магдалена го добила дарот на рамноапостолна, бидејќи со својот подвиг се вподобила на апостолите и станала проповедник на Евангелието. Наречена е рамноапостолна, иако апостолството како свештенодејство во Црквата е дар за мажите, но нејзиното име се спомнува во Светото Писмо дури и повеќепати од некои од апостолите.

Тоа дека во Христос нема ни машки пол, ни женски, туку сите се едно пред Него[1], а сè зависи од нашиот личносен однос кон Него, го сведочи и рамноапостолната Марија Магдалена. Зашто, можеби, во диптихот на Православната Црква не се среќаваат многу жени, но тие што се прославени достигнале толку голема светост и слава што дури предничат и пред мажите. Според зборовите на свети Јован Златоуст: „Жените се способни за големи подвизи, дури и за поголеми од оние на мажите“. Една од нив е светата мироносица Марија Магдалена.

“And He said to them: ‘Each of you will certainly object to Me: Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard happened in Capernaum, do also here, in Your native land.’ Then He said to them: ‘Assuredly, I say to you: no prophet is accepted in his own country'” (Luke 4, 22-30).

It is typical for the one who has no faith nor personal experience of repentance, the one who clings tightly to this world – being afraid of death, not to believe even in the repentance of his neighbour. Mainly because of the unbelief of his compatriots, the God-Man Jesus Christ did not perform many miracles in His native land.

What does a personal experience of repentance, conditionally, mean in the Church? We say conditionally because, first, repentance has no end for us in this world and in this age; and because, secondly, I want to emphasize that there is a special goal of repentance at each of the stages of spiritual development.

„А Он им рече: ’Секој од вас сигурно ќе Ми приговори: Лекаре, излекувај се Сам! Направи го и овде, во Твојот роден крај, она што чувме дека се случило во Капернаум‘. Па им рече: ’Вистина ви велам: ниеден пророк не е мил во земјата своја‘“ (Лука 4, 22–30).

Вообичаено е оној што нема вера и личен опит на покајание, оној што грчевито се фатил и се држи за овој свет – исплашен од смртта, да не верува ниту во покајанието на својот ближен. Главно поради неверувањето на своите сонародници, Богочовекот Исус Христос не направи многу чуда во Својот роден крај.

Што условно значи личен опит на покајание, во Црквата? Велиме условно затоа што, прво, покајанието нема крај за нас во ваквиот свет и во овој век; и затоа што, второ, сакам да нагласам дека постои посебна цел на покајанието на секој од степените на духовниот развој.

We have interpreted this event many times, and no matter how many times we read and interpret it, it will still not be completely clear to us why these people expelled Christ from their lands.

Something else which comes to mind is how we can connect this event to the event with the Samaritans.

The Samaritans, just like the Gadarenes, did not adhere to the Law and the Holy Scriptures and consequently they were sinning. The difference is that, after the Samaritan woman told the Samaritans about Christ, they came, listened to Him, and accepted Him. In contrast, after the swineherds told the Gadarenes what had happened, they came and met Christ outside the city and asked Him to depart from them.

This is what occurs every time in our life when we put something or someone before Christ. For the Gadarenes, the gratification of their passions was more important, they closed themselves off from Christ, and He did not enter their land. For the Samaritans, on the other hand, the most important thing was to know the true God, so they knew Christ and accepted Him. Taking pleasure or serving the passions shows that we are captive to them, that is, captivity by the devil. More specifically, the more we are open to Christ and allow Him to enter and dwell within us, the more He acts and we feel freedom. The Samaritans opened up and conversed with Him. On the other hand, these imprudent Gadarenes closed themselves off from Christ, did not even want to talk to Him, and immediately rejected Him.

That is why it is prudent to be like the Samaritans, to converse with Christ and allow Him to enter and dwell within us, and consequently, to write our names in the book of the living, unlike the Gadarenes who left an image of themselves as a sinful people.

May the Lord Jesus Christ, through the prayers of all the Saints, help us to be like the Samaritans and not like the Gadarenes.
