The truth will set you free – Metropolitan of Strumica, Mr. Nahum

The truth will set you free. Yes, if we accept the truth in our hearts and if we put it into practice. We said that truth is God’s information, and its bearer is the uncreated grace of God. By receiving God’s information, together with it we also accept God’s grace.

We accept God’s information first with our reason, through the struggle of faith, and in this way we purify the energy of our mind. But that is not sufficient. We must also accept God’s information with our spiritual heart, which means that we must decide to live in accordance with it, to turn God’s information into deeds of God.

In this way, we activate God’s uncreated grace that we receive at Baptism, which until then has been latent in our heart. This grace is activated after God sees that we show a continuous desire and struggle to put God’s information into practice, in our lives; not before then.

The activated grace of God begins to cleanse the deposits of sin and passions from the essence of our mind which is located in our spiritual centre – the heart, and in this way we, slowly but surely, begin to free ourselves from the slavery of sin, from the demons associated with our passions and we pass from death to life.

When the truth, that is, God’s information, sufficiently cleanses the heart from passions, then the heart will open for the energy of the mind to enter into it – which unites there with the essence of the heart, and the one who has succeeded in this struggle will be able to say the prayer inside his heart; such a one has received the Theotokos’s and God’s gift of mind-and-heart prayer.

The enlightenment of the mind and of the spiritual reason are the fruit of the gift of mind-and-heart prayer, of the cleansing of the essence of the mind from passions through the accepted and activated grace of God.

The enlightenment of the mind and of the spiritual reason are the first signs of a man being freed by the truth.
